Welcome to Dr. L. Mixon Psychology Services, APC
I’m Dr. L. Mixon, a Licensed Clinical and Forensic Psychologist dedicated to providing culturally responsive clinical and forensic services. Growing up in a military family exposed me to a diverse range of cultures from an early age, which sparked my interest in psychology. Being exposed to community members’ involvement in the legal system furthered my interest into forensic psychology. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology/Criminology from Howard University, my Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and my Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Forensic from Nova Southeastern University.
Mission and Vision
My mission at Dr. L. Mixon Psychology Services, APC is to provide culturally responsive Clinical and Forensic Services to the legal system and individuals, in order to promote justice, insight, and understanding into the intersection of mental health, culture, and behavior.
My Vision is to be recognized as a trusted and respected provider of Clinical and Forensic Services, known for my commitment to cultural competence, equity, adherence to evidenced based practice, my dedication to providing services with compassion and integrity, and my contributions to advancing the field of forensic psychology through consultations and trainings.
Approach and Philosophy
I offer primarily in-person appointments in San Francisco. I am committed to working with Black, queer, and neurodivergent individuals that are in need of more culturally responsive evaluation and clinical services. My philosophy focuses on de-pathologizing the Black, Queer, and Neurodivergent experience by offering affirming practice.
My expertise in Forensic Evaluations can answer legal questions of criminal, family, and civil courts. My Clinical expertise is in the treatment of co-occurring disorders, trauma, problematic sexual behavior, substance abuse, neurodivergence, identity, and with perpetrators or survivors of violence. My Clinical and Forensic Services consider the lived experiences of my clients, and aims to include the considerations of identity and culture in systems of supremacy.
My assessment and therapeutic procedures include consideration of decolonization and intersectionality. The foundation of my work is in anti-oppressive and depth-oriented exploration. I will prescribe evidence based and ancestral interventions such as ritual, thought monitoring, community, meditation, behavioral experiments, and promote your connection to your consciousness in our work.
I value a holistic approach that engenders the humanness of individuals. In either of my Clinical or Forensic Services, I invite collaboration, utilize compassion, and am driven by justice, integrity, and skill. I engender courage and humility whether I am interacting with judges, attorneys, or individuals.
