Dr. Mixon is a Licensed Clinical Forensic Psychologist who graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in psychology and criminology, John Jay College of Criminal Justice with a Master of Arts (MA) in Forensic Psychology and Nova Southeastern University with a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Forensic Psychology.
Her interests and specialties are in Clinical and Forensic assessment and treatment. She has assisted courts, state/federal agencies and legal teams with answering questions related to violence risk, competency to stand trial, parental fitness, diminished capacity, and mitigation. Dr. Mixon has partnered with schools with determining eligibility for child or adolescent disability to enable student access to special education services.
Her clinical experience is with persons that would like support with: co-occuring diagnosis, substance abuse, sexual behavior problems, sexuality, oppression, inter-generational and/or race based trauma, intersectionality, sexual violence, anger management, and intimate partner violence. Her individual and group psychotherapy experiences have been with the following groups: sexual offenders, survivors of sexual violence, survivors of domestic violence, domestic violence offenders, sexual minorities, juveniles, drug offenders, and forensic dually diagnosed. In gaining experience with the aforementioned populations, she has worked in the following settings: community, court, forensic hospital, school, prison work release, dual diagnosed residential, jail, psychiatric hospital, and private practice.
Dr. Mixon has extended her expertise into the community by facilitating seminars on sexual offender dynamics, forensic psychology, racial issues in forensic mental health, cultural competence, co-occurring diagnosis, and sexual abuse survivorship. Dr. Mixon is published researcher on topics related to black sexuality, stereotype threat, and psychological expert witness testimony.
